Car sales in Kazakhstan reached a historic peak in 2024, defying earlier expectations and surpassing the previous year’s figures. According to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAO), official dealers sold 205,100 new vehicles, marking a 3.2% increase over 2023, when the country registered 198,600 units — already a record at the time.

This unexpected growth came despite a period of market stagnation during the spring and summer months. Industry analysts had forecast a challenging year ahead, citing potential market saturation and a dip in consumer demand.

Sales Surge in Late 2024 Offsets Mid-Year Slowdown

Sales figures dipped during the second quarter of the year, creating uncertainty about the market’s momentum. However, a strong rebound began in October, with monthly sales consistently crossing the 20,000 mark. December saw an all-time monthly high of 25,500 vehicles sold, pushing the annual total to a record level.

KAO President Anar Makasheva credited the success to increased competition, aggressive marketing campaigns, and coordinated efforts by financial institutions and government agencies. “Despite a slow start, the year ended strong due to extraordinary financing options — including zero down payments and flexible installment plans,” Makasheva noted.
